World Book Day Celebration

Pupils (and no doubt their parents too!) went that extra mile designing, making and wearing some amazing book character costumes in celebration of World Book Day last week. This important day was superbly planned and the in recognition of this day focused on the importance of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the books we write, read and share. Books by authors such as Lenny Henry, R J Palacio and Libby Scott were just a few of the many titles touched upon in the assembly, which aimed to celebrate the rich diversity that makes up our world and the importance of ensuring that this is effectively represented and celebrated within literature. The books, ‘Elmer’ and ‘The Smeds and the Smoods’ even appeared at one stage, which delighted our younger readers and allowed them to actively engage with this important message.

We again welcomed Mr Dilly to school, who presented an immersive WWII workshop in the morning and went on to perform again in the afternoon, with the help of Reception to Year 6, as he treated us to his very unique and comic adaptation of ‘The Wizard of Oz’. Well done to everyone involved on stage – another truly memorable and very special World Book Day.
