John Lyon offers a broad education to pupils who aspire to achieve excellence in all they do. As such, the admissions procedure is designed both to reveal applicants’ ability as well as to judge their potential.
We look to offer places to able young pupils who have a great attitude to learning combined with a desire to be the best that they can be.
John Lyon pupils largely come from North West London, in a triangle between the M4 to the south, M25 to the north and west, and M1 / A5 to the north and east. Boys also come to us from outside Greater London – from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.
At John Lyon we pride ourselves in our welcoming and helpful approach to admissions, for boys at 11+, 13+ and Sixth Form.
We understand that choosing a school can be a difficult process for both parents and pupils. The information on bursaries, scholarships, fees, examinations and registration provided in these pages should help guide you through the process.
If you would like to know more, or have a specific question please do not hesitate to get in touch with our Registrar, Rebecca Davies.

The school is academically selective, but here the term ‘potential’ is not just rhetoric. All applicants are interviewed by senior staff (at 13, all by the head), with the intention of snuffling out ‘those happy to be busy, active and willing to push themselves’.The Good Schools Guide on admissions

Thank you for providing such a positive day for the boys yesterday. They have returned to school this morning full of beans, with smiles on their faces and using words like ‘so fun’ and ‘really great day’.A prep school head following the 2018 Entrance Examination Day
Following the 11+ test day, my son was elated and in very high spirits talking about every aspect of the day on the journey home. In particular, he mentioned how much he enjoyed the group exercise and interacting with his peers.A prospective 11+ parent after the 2018 Entrance Examination Day
