Sport

Sport plays a crucial role in the life of a John Lyon pupil. With an array of sporting opportunities on offer, both through team games or individual activity which provide a range of benefits that contribute to the holistic development of our students.

The school has a number of key sports, notably Football, Netball, Hockey and Cricket alongside an ever increasing specialist sports programme ranging from Archery to Water Polo.

Across our Senior and Sudbury campuses we boast seven football pitches, three cricket squares and an all-weather Hockey and tennis astro and Archery shed. This is supplemented by a 25m swimming pool, Sports Hall, cricket nets and two fitness suites alongside other outdoor practice areas.

John Lyon also has extensive access to sporting facilities at Harrow School, including an Athletics track, a nine-hole Golf course and Multi Use Games areas.

We pride ourselves on offering a competitive sporting programme for all those who wish to take part, alongside a number of recreational activities that can be enjoyed by all. With over 65 teams across the senior school and almost 50 weekly sporting activities, there is plenty on offer for those wishing to develop their sporting talents. Regular trips and tours take place throughout the year both within the UK and abroad.

Many pupils go on to represent John Lyon at county, regional and national level and our Scholarship and Athlete mentoring programme provides support for those competing at the Elite level.

We are extremely fortunate to work with such a dedicated and committed Sports Department which include a number of academic staff who ensure that as many pupils as possible have access to high quality sport and exercise.

The excitement across all age groups is evident from the number of pupils and parents who turn up to enjoy competitive sport as we strive for our two main aims; participation and excellence.

The School offers competitive entrance scholarships in Sport at 11, 13 and 16.
