Celebrating Record-Breaking A-Level Success at John Lyon
John Lyon’s 2026 A-Level results have set a new benchmark for academic excellence, with this year’s Upper Sixth cohort securing the highest proportion of top A* grades in our school’s history.
At a Glance:
- 14% of all examinations sat were awarded the top A* grade—our highest on record!
- 43% of entries achieved A*–A, matching our record-breaking performance from last year.
- An impressive 74% of all grades awarded were A*–B—a massive 10 percentage point leap from last year!
- 85% of all grades landed at A*–C.
These remarkable results ensure our departing Sixth Formers are stepping into bright futures, securing places at top-tier universities and competitive higher-education pathways.
While success was seen across the board, several academic departments achieved remarkable milestones:
- 100% A* in Art
- 100% A*–C in Further Mathematics, Geography, History, Latin, Music Technology, Philosophy, Politics, and EPQ
- 95% A*–B in Economics
- 93% A*–B in Geography
- 52% A*–A in Mathematics
- 33% A* in Physics
- 42% of the entire cohort achieved A or A* in at least two A-Level subjects.

Following on from our strong 2025 results and adding another proud milestone to our 150th anniversary year, today’s success is another reminder of what makes John Lyon so special. Thanks to the dedication of our teaching staff, the continued investment in our facilities, and the support of our parent community, our students continue to attain academic success and secure places at top universities.
