Teacher of Physical Education

Teacher of Physical Education

Required for September 2023

We are looking to recruit an energetic, well-qualified and motivated graduate to join our highly successful and innovative school as a Teacher of Physical Education on a full-time, permanent basis, from September 2023. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced teachers or those new to the profession. The successful candidate will teach across the full spectrum of age and ability ranges, demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and have an ability to enthuse and inspire pupils, contributing keenly to the wider life of John Lyon. A specialism in girls sport, such as netball, hockey and/or cricket would be welcome.

John Lyon is a sought-after academically selective 3-18 co-educational independent day school, based in Harrow-on-the-Hill in North West London. Having educated boys from Harrow and surrounding areas since 1876, John Lyon welcomed its first girls as pupils in September 2021. The School has also moved from being a senior school to an all through school, following an amalgamation with Quainton Hall Prep School in 2021.

Pupils’ academic standards and personal development were both rated the highest  possible ‘excellent’ in our most recent ISI school inspections. Add to this the vibrant Co-Curricular Programme focusing on a sense of community, achievement and wellbeing, a range of more than 100 extra-curricular activities, and pastoral care that is second to none, a John Lyon education nurtures high-achieving and happy children.

Trainee or newly qualified teachers will have a dedicated mentor, a range of training activities and the chance to regularly observe outstanding teachers. John Lyon supports unqualified teachers in achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) qualification whilst working at the School. For applicants without a teaching qualification we are looking for: passion for their specialist subject, excellent subject knowledge, enthusiasm, strong listening and communication skills, determination and resolve.

The School’s benefits include:

  • A competitive salary, above that of the maintained sector,
  • Membership of the competitive Harrow Corporation DC Pension Scheme
  • Fees remission for children of staff,
  • A Microsoft Surface Book for every member of teaching staff,
  • A commitment to continuing professional development,
  • Complimentary lunch during term-time,
  • Use of the School’s Sports Centre with swimming pool,
  • Discounted membership to Harrow School’s Golf Club,
  • Designated free parking for staff,
  • The Cycle to Work Scheme.
