Strictly Come Morris Dancing - Spring 2009 |
|
Four members of the JLS staff proved that even teachers can learn something new. Seven members of the Greensleeves Morris Men (GMM) came to the School from all over London to teach morris dancing.
Teaching the teachers was not easy but they listened well and followed the advice given by the members of the club. Everyone co-operated with each other. The lunchtime show was in front of an audience of around 40 people. The first dance was called Brighton Camp, which ended with Miss Balaven being lifted up in the air. This was followed by a ferocious dance called Twin Sisters.
Then it was the turn of the ‘celebrities': the Headmaster, together with Mr Durbridge, Mr Parker and Mr Thornton. The four came up on to the stage and prepared to dance Vandals. They did extremely well considering that they had only 50 minutes to learn the dance, and everyone ended up cheering. To cap off the successful event, GMM got audience members to participate in their farewell dance, Bonny Green Garters. Many people joined in.
