A brand new John Lyon annual lecture series, Talk-on-the-Hill, begins with an evening focusing on ‘space’ – whether that be outer space, personal space, parking space, cyberspace or living space. Designed as an event with numerous speakers including subject experts, pupils, teachers, parents and members of the Harrow community, the short lectures will look deeply into and around each subject.

Keynote speaker: Jeremy Curtis, Head of Education and Skills at the UK Space Agency. Other speakers: Michael Gollings, Hill resident; Dick Barnat, Hill resident; Justin Davison, John Lyon parent; Robert Ellis-Paul, John Lyon teacher; Chris Crowe, Harrow School teacher; Adam Zoromba, John Lyon Lower Sixth student; Husain Abedi, John Lyon Lower Sixth student; Daraius Sarkari, John Lyon Year 7 pupil.

An opportunity for John Lyon pupils in Year 9 and above and their parents to meet a range of successful professionals from a wide variety of sectors, including law, medicine, finance, armed forces and tech industries. This evening is designed to help boys discover more about the reality of these occupations and to discuss the key skills and academic qualifications required for success. It also serves as a chance for students to make valuable contacts which may enable them to arrange work experience in the future.

This event is open to all boys in Year 9 and above, their parents and siblings. Booking is essential. To be re-sent registration details please email SBP@johnlyon.org

The Olympic Journey, 26th February

The Olympic Journey – Sir Matthew Pinsent at John Lyon

Four-time Olympic rowing champion, Sir Matthew Pinsent, comes to John Lyon as part of the John Lyon Excellence programme. The accomplished oarsman will talk to pupils about his rise from schoolboy rower to Oxford University Boat Race champion and then to elite international athlete, and how he made himself the very best he could be.

This event is open to all boys, their parents and siblings. Booking is essential and tickets will be available from Friday 25th January 2019 on a first-come basis. Duet Philharmonic, 8th April

Duet Philharmonic Orchestra at Royal Festival Hall

John Lyon trombonist Sebastian Clifford-Varley and violinist Nicholas Berezovsky take to the stage at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the Duet Philharmonic Orchestra, an enormous symphony orchestra which comes together every two years and is made up of the best-of-the-best form British Schools.

The programme includes Wagner, Stravinsky and Mahler.

Tickets, £5 – £25, are available from the Royal Festival Hall website.
