School Nurse / Welfare Officer / Counsellor / Healthcare Assistant (Full or Part Time)

School Nurse / Welfare Officer / Counsellor / Healthcare Assistant (Full or Part Time)

We are seeking an additional member (or perhaps two part-time members) for our Medical Centre team in the provision of a high-quality pastoral service to our pupils.  For the right individual, there can be some flexibility in hours and days worked, so this role could be full- or part-time; and could be more focussed on the wellbeing and counselling of pupils across the School, or on more direct first aid medical duties – so if you think you might have some useful skills and experience to offer, please get in touch!  This is an exciting time to join the School, as we embed our through-School (3-18) approach and with co-education in the Senior School continuing to expand at pace.

This role (or roles) will support the School Nurse (at the Senior School) and the Welfare Officer (at the Prep School) in providing medical care for pupils who are unwell, treating and dealing with accidents and emergencies within the School, health promotion and support for ongoing medical and mental health issues.  A successful candidate will be someone who has a real passion for getting involved in School life and having an interest in both practical first aid support and/or in mental health support, alongside the School’s existing counselling provision for pupils.  Being an RGN registered Nurse with A&E, Minor Injury Assessment or Primary Care Experience with paediatric experience or HCPC registered Healthcare Assistant is desirable but not essential if a candidate has significant experience in a School welfare setting and first aid qualifications and experience, particularly in support of Sports and Outdoor Activities.

The post-holder will be required to be part of a rota to attend Saturday sports fixtures and will also have the opportunity to take part in the whole range of School trips, both in the UK and overseas.

The salary will be dependent on skills and experience, as well as the agreed working hours and weeks; with an indicative salary of £30,287 to £35,298 for a 35-hour week, and 36 weeks per year (ie Term Time plus 2 weeks).

The School’s benefits include:

  • Complimentary lunch during term-time
  • Fees remission for children of staff
  • Use of the School’s Sports Centre (including swimming pool) at designated times
  • Discount membership to Harrow School’s Golf Club
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Commitment to professional development
