Classics visit to British Museum

The Classics department recently took Year 10 and 11 Classicists on an educational trip to the British Museum. The day was designed to enrich pupils’ understanding of the Greco-Roman world and provide a hands-on connection to their studies.

Equipped with tablets, pupils explored the museum’s renowned Greco-Roman galleries at their own pace. This interactive experience allowed them to engage with artifacts, such as statues, pottery, and inscriptions, while accessing detailed explanations and quizzes through the tablets. The activity consolidated their classroom learning and offered new insights into ancient culture, religion, and daily life. A standout feature of the day was an engaging lecture about the Parthenon sculptures, delivered by an expert in classical art. Pupils learned about the intricate details of the sculptures, their mythological themes, and the cultural significance of the Parthenon.

The visit proved to be an invaluable opportunity for pupils to connect with the ancient world in a meaningful way. It deepened their understanding of Classical history and art while inspiring them to consider the timeless impact of ancient civilisations.
