Year 2 take Science outdoors at Sudbury Fields

Year 2 took their learning outside with a practical science lesson at our Sudbury Fields, exploring the natural world and discovering what makes something alive. Using the MRS GREN (Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, Nutrition) life processes they have been studying in class, pupils enjoyed scavenger hunts and sorting challenges to decide whether objects were alive, once alive, or never alive.

While at the fields, the pupils also observed plants and animals in their natural habitats, learned about food chains and how living things rely on each other for energy. They also took part in creative activities including leaf identification, rubbings and making necklaces from natural treasures. These activities were a firm favourite with everyone enjoying the hands-on fun!

This engaging session gave our pupils a wonderful chance to act as young forest rangers as they investigated, questioned and applied their scientific knowledge in real-life contexts all while enjoying the great outdoors.
