The Big Feed Charity Initiative

Our recent Big Feed event saw pupils, staff, parents and governors come together to prepare meals for families facing food poverty across London. In total, an incredible 3,482 meals were prepared and distributed over two days in the Easter Holidays.

Part of our 150th anniversary programme of activities, the event was a fitting way to celebrate the School’s longstanding commitment to service and community, which has been at the heart of its ethos since it was founded in 1876.

A Team Effort in Action
Working in partnership with the School’s caterer, Thomas Franks, six teams of 105 volunteers worked side by side over the course of two days to portion, pack, label and box meals. They transformed approximately 800kg of surplus ingredients, which would have ended up in landfill if not utilised, into nutritious meals that were then distributed by City Harvest, a charity dedicated to redistributing surplus food to organisations supporting individuals and families experiencing food poverty.

A Community Effort to Remember
It was wonderful to have the whole school community come together and unite for such a great cause. We are incredibly proud of what our first Big Event has achieved with plans already underway for the next event of this kind. A huge thank you to everyone for their time, energy and support in making this such a success.
