Sixth Form Art students attend ARTiculation Prize Regional Heats

A group of our Sixth Form Art students recently attended the regional heats of the ARTiculation Prize, where they listened to art-themed presentations by students from schools across the region, including one of their peers, Cassie in Lower Sixth.

The ARTiculation Prize is an annual competition run by the National Gallery as part of its ARTiculation programme encouraging young people to engage with the arts. Students deliver a 10-minute presentation on a chosen artwork, architectural piece, or museum artefact, which helps them build on their knowledge of art, whilst developing key skills including confidence, presentation and visual analysis at the same time.

We would like to congratulate Cassie on her presentation on The Unequal Marriage by Vasili Pukirev, which was highly praised by the adjudicators. They highlighted her strong focus on the composition of the artwork and her thorough, detailed visual analysis. Additionally, they commended her for skillfully weaving in themes of realism, audience reception, and viewer response, and for successfully engaging the audience with both the artwork and the ideas explored throughout her presentation.

Opportunities like this are an important part of the John Lyon Sixth Form experience, offering hands-on learning that helps our students develop skills beyond the classroom and prepares them for life after school. This visit was one such experience, leaving our students with practical insights on how to think more critically about art and to feel more confident in sharing their ideas.
