Lorraine Wright-Boateng MBE shares a positive message on resilience and overcoming adversity

We were delighted to welcome Lorraine Wright-Boateng MBE to John Lyon for our first Excellence Programme talk of the year. The Excellence Programme is designed to provide opportunities for all pupils—regardless of their academic ability or age—to reach their full potential, explore their interests, and ignite their passion for learning.

Lorraine’s impressive career includes a range of remarkable achievements including an MBE for community services, an Oxford scholar, a leader in business development, and the founder of the University Gospel Choir of the Year (UGCY) competition.

Her presentation, titled ‘The Strength of Adversity: How Challenges Shaped My Path to Excellence’, was both inspiring and thought-provoking, delivering a compelling message to our Year 10 and 11 pupils. Lorraine’s mantra, “Whatever you don’t visualise, will not materialise”, resonated strongly with the audience, particularly as the pupils prepare for their GCSEs.

We extend our sincere thanks to Lorraine for her engaging visit to John Lyon and for sharing her story and insights with such energy.
