A-level opportunities at Harrow School

From the start of this academic year, our A-level pupils have had the opportunity to study certain subjects at Harrow School alongside their students. This access to a wider range of courses gives our pupils greater choice and allows them to explore a broader spectrum of academic pathways and experiences.

Our close ties with the Harrow Family of Schools continues to be a real asset, as we work together to find new ways to collaborate, combining expertise and ideas to benefit our pupils.

As the first term comes to a close, we spoke to one of our current Sixth Formers, Zac, about his experience so far. Alongside studying Mathematics and Geography at John Lyon, he is completing A-level Design Technology & Engineering at Harrow School.

Zac reflects on his experience so far:

“I am really enjoying my course, which is teaching me a wide range of skills that I can apply to my Non-Examined Assessment (NEA), which counts for 50% of the final grade. What’s great is that we have the freedom to choose our design projects, including for my NEA, which means I can explore topics that interest me in greater depth while building practical skills in design and engineering.

Beyond the academic benefits, attending Harrow School part-time has opened up a range of co-curricular opportunities. I have been able to join societies, clubs and other activities. With the support of the Headmaster, I have joined the Architecture Society and a Strength and Fitness training group, at 6am!

In early November, I also took part in Harrow’s traditional Long Ducker cross-country race, a charity event which this year raised funds for the Harrow Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre. The atmosphere on the day was wonderful, with students, teachers and families all coming together to take part and support the cause.

I have really enjoyed my first couple of months at Harrow School and the opportunities it has given me. It has been a fantastic way to expand my horizons, meet new people and try new things – all experiences that I’m sure will stay with me throughout this journey and beyond school.”
