A successful Sports Tour at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre
Thirty-six boys and girls from Year 7 and Year 8 recently enjoyed an exciting two-day visit to Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre, taking part in a Junior Football and Hockey Tour alongside pupils from other schools. The trip gave pupils the opportunity to represent the School, compete and enjoy sport together.
Two days of teamwork, skill and competition
On the first day of the tour our teams took part in football and hockey tournaments against Great Marlow School, John Hampden Grammar School and Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School. Showing excellent teamwork, determination and skill throughout the day, every John Lyon team finished in second place in their respective tournaments — an impressive result against some strong competition.
The second day saw two John Lyon football teams play against Marlow Youth FC on the renowned Bisham Abbey Desso pitch, a surface once used by the England national team. Both games were closely contested and played in a great spirit, with particularly strong performances from Year 8 pupils Chandresh and Abilucksen, while Milan also in Year 8 produced a superb save that had everyone cheering.
A Trip to Adams Park
To round off the tour, the group travelled to Adams Park to watch Wycombe Wanderers take on Doncaster Rovers. Pupils experienced the atmosphere of professional football as Wycombe secured an impressive 4–0 victory, strengthening their push for the EFL League One Playoffs. It was an inspiring way to end a fantastic trip.
A Weekend to Remember
The tour was a tremendous success and thoroughly enjoyed by pupils and staff alike. Pupils were overwhelmingly positive about the experience.
Ophelia-Rose (Year 7) commented, “I thoroughly enjoyed the hockey and football tour because having the opportunity to learn more and do more activities was really fun. I also liked playing in a tournament against other schools. Bisham Abbey was such a great experience, and I would love to visit again.”
Dhilan (Year 8) added, “I really enjoyed the trip and thought it was a great opportunity to play against different levels of teams. Spending time with my friends and pushing my sporting ability was great, and watching the live football match was one of my favourite parts because the atmosphere was amazing.”
