A Splashing Success at the 2026 Swimathon
The whole school dived in with great enthusiasm for the 2026 John Lyon Swimathon, with pupils from across Senior and Prep raising over £6,000 for our chosen charities.
Held as part of our 150th anniversary celebrations, the event was a fantastic opportunity for the John Lyon community to come together, make a real difference and leave a positive mark in this milestone year.
Swimming with Purpose
Reflecting the spirit of service and community that has defined John Lyon since its founding in 1876, in honour of our 150th milestone year, pupils took part in a series of “150-themed” challenges, swimming 150 metres, working together towards a collective 150 miles and some even challenged themselves to complete 150 lengths individually. It was great to see pupils fully engaged, encouraging and supporting one another, whilst having fun along the way as they took part in the various activities.
Supporting Meaningful Causes
Every lap swum contributed towards two meaningful causes. The Senior School supported Brain Tumour Research in memory of former pupil Joshua Beresford-Smart, while the Prep School raised funds for the National Deaf Children’s Society, reflecting the School’s commitment to inclusion and equal opportunity.
The Results
Senior School fundraising total: over £5,070
Prep School fundraising total: over £1,060
Total laps swum: 19,663
Total distance covered: an incredible 373,302 metres
A Celebration to Remember
The Swimathon was a fantastic way to celebrate 150 years of John Lyon, bringing the school community together and resulting in an amazing outcome. A huge thank you to everyone in for their support and contributions.
