John Lyon School Achieves Best A-Level Results Since 2017

John Lyon School is celebrating exceptional A Level results this year, with Sixth Form students achieving the strongest set of outcomes since 2017. Our school continues to strengthen its reputation for academic excellence, with 42.8% of all grades awarded at A*–A in the 2024/25 results released today.

On a day of celebration and pride, we were proud to note we have matched our highest A* attainment rate since the pandemic, equalling last year’s exceptional performance. Every other performance measure has risen sharply, with an impressive 86.2% of grades at A*–C – the best overall result since 2017.

Students sat A Levels in 24 subjects across a wide academic range, reflecting the breadth and depth of John Lyon’s Sixth Form curriculum. More than 40% of pupils achieved the highest grades in a range of disciplines spanning the sciences, humanities, and the arts.

Headline statistics from this year’s results include:

  • 43% of all grades awarded at A–A* (highest since 2017, joint best since the pandemic)
  • 86% of all grades awarded at A–C* (highest since 2017)
  • A* attainment rate matched last year’s exceptional performance (joint highest since the pandemic)
  • Every other performance measure significantly improved on last year
  • 18 subjects taken at A Level across a broad academic range

These results underline a clear upward trajectory in the school’s academic performance in recent years. They follow sustained investment in teaching, facilities, and academic support, and are a testament to the dedication of both students and staff.

John Lyon’s leavers will now progress to some of the UK’s most competitive degree courses at prestigious Russell Group institutions, including Imperial College London, University College London (UCL), the University of Warwick, and the University of Leeds.

Head Mrs Rose Hardy said:
“This year’s results confirm John Lyon School as a place where ambition is nurtured and achievement is expected. Our students have shown exceptional commitment and drive, and these outcomes are a testament to their hard work and the dedication of our staff. We are proud to see them progressing to world-class universities and exciting futures.”

The 2024/25 results are particularly significant as they mark the third year since the school welcomed girls into the Sixth Form and transitioned to a fully co-educational model. This move has broadened the school community and enriched the academic and co-curricular life of the Sixth Form, while maintaining the high standards and selective entry for which John Lyon is known.

In addition to delivering academic excellence, John Lyon offers a rich and varied co-curricular programme, ensuring that pupils leave with not only strong examination results but also the skills, confidence, and character to thrive in higher education and beyond.

With this year’s outstanding results, the school continues to position itself as a destination for ambitious, high-achieving pupils from across northwest London and beyond.
