Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

Our pupils and staff have enjoyed celebrations this week to mark and commemorate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The week began with a poignant assembly themed around British values, and on Thursday 26 May the school transformed into a sea of red, white and blue. Pupils and staff came dressed in their finest on non-uniform day in tribute to the occasion and were encouraged to make a small donation towards The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust. It was a very fitting and worthy cause to support, and as a community we came together to raise funds for the charity.

In addition to this, a special themed lunch was laid on in our aptly decorated New Memorial Dining Hall, with bunting, flags, cutouts of HM The Queen and more! It was a wonderful atmosphere to tuck into a traditional lunch as well as some indulgent baking, including a Victoria sponge cake and trifle. Many thanks to our excellent chefs and catering team for laying on a magnificent spread. It was a wonderful treat that was thoroughly enjoyed by all, especially as it was towards the end of the half term!

There are also end of year trips arranged for every senior school year group over the coming weeks, and these will also centre around the Jubilee theme. One of our trips will involve a visit to The Jubilee Gates at The Regent’s Park, London.

The school has also taken part in the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC), a special tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. This initiative is very much in line with the school’s sustainability agenda, and will no doubt add to our estate, and we feel very honoured to plant these trees on this fabulous occasion. Earlier this week, some Year 7 pupils and our Sustainability Prefects visited our Sudbury Fields and learnt from our grounds staff about the whopping 105 tree saplings that will be arriving at the school courtesy of the Woodland Trust. A special commemorative plaque will accompany this and will serve as a wonderful reminder to current and future generations of this historic event.
