For pupils in Year 11 and the Sixth Form, sailing is becoming an increasingly popular sporting option.
Based at the Queen Mary Sailing Club in west London, sailing sessions are made up of small groups of pupils led by a team of experienced coaches. All abilities are catered for, from complete beginners up to experienced racers.
Pupils begin in single-handed Laser Picos and can move on to double-handed boats when they have more experience. Pupils are taught how to rig their boats and how to launch them safely.
Teaching is entirely practical and hands-on, with safety boats on standby. Pupils have the chance to hold informal races at the venue against other London schools, which is a wonderful learning opportunity.
