The Autumn Term Football season has got off to the best possible start for John Lyon as the U13 team took victory in a hotly contested local tournament.
The 37th annual Orley Farm School Football Tournament was played on Saturday 15th September and saw a strong John Lyon team win all four of their matches without conceding a goal.
Up against local rival schools Orley Farm, Berkhamsted, Durston House, St Martin’s and Beechwood Park, the John Lyon boys cruised through their group with 4-0 and 2-0 wins, before a much tighter 1-0 victory over Berkhamsted in the semi-final. That set up a final against Durston House which saw the Lyons run out 2-0 winners.
Team coach Mr Rob Rice, said: “Picking out a star player would be impossible as the whole team performed incredibly over the fours matches. It was especially pleasing to receive so many positive comments from the opposition schools about our style of play.
“Winning the Orley Farm tournament is a really big achievement. The competition has been going since 1981 and this is only the second time John Lyon has taken home the trophy. It sets this skillful team up for a successful Football season to come.”
Congratulations to the whole team:
Jack Ellis, Alex Rothwell, Joseph Ulasi, Tunde Saka, Jake Walker, Aston Ellard, Luca Lombardi, Oscar Beynon, Raul Gupta, George Allen, Tio Eniade, Roko Choudhry
