Both teams played hard and to the best of their ability
Water Polo success continues for John Lyon with both the U15s and U18s winning their latest tournament, reports Lower Sixth student Arav Bhatia.
At the beginning of December, the John Lyon Water Polo squads travelled to Hillingdon to play a friendly tournament against teams from our neighbouring borough and from Northampton, to compete for a new development trophy.
Both our U15 and U19 teams played hard and to the best of their ability, and this hard work was evident in both teams winning all their matches and in case of the U15s, by a large margin.
The U15 team defeated the Hillingdon Youth games 2019 team 12-6, their first game against Northampton 13-8, the current Hillingdon team 15-4 and their second game against Northampton 4-3. Outstanding performance came especially from Oliver Castell, Aryan Patel and William Mitchell as goalkeeper.
The U19 team won against Northampton 6-4, against Hillingdon’s A team 8-7, against Hillingdon’s B team 8-1 and won against a combined Hillingdon team 7-5. Stand-out players were Jason Mahmutoglu, Patrick Colson, and goalkeeper Daniel Wong. I even gave a good performance myself.
The tournament was a great learning experience and was was enjoyed by all of us who took part. We were all happy to end up winning the cup at the end of the event. Well done to everyone who took part.
This latest Water Polo success follows victory in the plate competition of the London Youth Games Water Polo tournament earlier in the year.
There has also been individual success for Oliver Castell, who has been selected to train with GB Water Polo.
