John Lyon hoop stars end term with Harrow Borough tournament victory
John Lyon’s U14 Basketball team have signed off from Spring Term action with a thrilling Harrow Borough tournament victory.
Playing at home in the match against Whitmore High School on Tuesday 2nd April, the squad of ten Year 9 pupils took an early lead in the game and managed to keep their opponents at arm’s length until the final whistle, eventually running out 36-26 winners and being crowned Harrow champions.
Team coach Mr John Blenkinsop reflected on a successful term for the School’s star Basketball team:
“Basketball has continued to go from strength to strength this term and this U14 team has excelled under the superb coaching of Aman Hoque and Aman Patel, whose contributions have been invaluable.
“The season has been one to remember with wins against Pinner High School, Nower Hill High School and Rooks Heath College in the regular season before meeting Park High School in the borough semi final. The win in the final was testament to all the boys hard work across not only this year but since they first attended the club. A superb and deserved win.
“There were notable performances from all members of the starting five at different points throughout the season: Aymen Kirmani has come on in leaps and bounds and cemented his position as starter with his excellent rebounding skills and delicate touch under the basket; Taranvir Bansal has perfected his mid-range jump shot and is a dead eye from out on the wing; Yash Patel, after joining basketball club only this year, has seriously impressed with his tenacity as a rebounder and consistent effort on defence; Oluremi Onabanjo has continued to display excellent ball handling skills from the point and pulled off some particularly athletic lay ups; and Tobi Ladipo has continued to excel in all aspects of the game and has been our top scorer across the season.”
