Expeditions

Mr Ralph Durbridge is the Expedition Team Leader and is the School's Head of Outdoor Education. He has led the last five JLS expeditions and has vast experience in this field. Ralph has been interested in sport from a very young age, from running clubs to playing rugby. This led to Ralph's passion in life - mountaineering! After 30 years of Policing Ralph retired and soon afterwards began work at The John Lyon School. Ralph is extremely skilled and passionate about mountaineering and is a great inspiration to the boys at the John Lyon School. Before every major expedition, the boys complete a training programme to ensure they are prepared both physically and mentally. The sense of achievement and pride that the boys feel is evident in all the photographs of previous expeditions. The boys going to Greenland are hoping to achieve life skills that will set them up as rounded individuals for their future, as well as being an exciting and memorable experience.

Ralph has led expeditions in the following countries: Borneo, Sarawak Guyana, South America Belize Guatemala Mexico Thailand Kenya Uganda Tanzania Morocco Vietnam Iceland Nepal European Alps Italy, Appenine  and various locations in the UK
