ImageThe John Lyon Sports Centre, which was opened in 1997 by HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, provides the School with modern, indoor sports facilities on its main Middle Road campus. With its own entrance and reception area as well as wet and dry changing rooms, the centre is used extensively by the School for PE lessons and recreational activities.

The Sports Centre is also used by six local schools and by a number of sports clubs. In addition, outside of normal school hours, the centre is available to members of the John Lyon Sports Club. The club is open to a limited membership with connections to the School. Swimming pool

The JLS Swim School has recently expanded and now runs Tuesday-Friday after school hours and also during the day on Saturday and Sunday. The Swim School operates at various levels, following the ASA National Swim Plan. It starts with Ducklings (for toddlers at least 1m high) and goes through to Swimfit (for adults of all ages).

The John Lyon Sports Centre is IQL-accredited to run ASA swimming teacher and NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification) courses. Regular courses are held - please call us on the number below for further details.

Sports hall

The sports hall, which is large enough to accommodate three badminton courts, is available on weekdays after 5.30pm and also at weekends. Groups currently using it include badminton, table tennis, indoor cricket, volleyball and basketball.

Fitness studio

Induction courses are available from our qualified instructors, who will put together properly tailored individual fitness programmes to John Lyon Sports Club members.

Please note: car parking at the John Lyon Sports Centre is limited: Centre users are requested to use public transport whenever possible.
