Royal Academy trip - Summer 2009 PDF Print E-mail

By Sachin Gandhi and Joe Herman

On Tuesday the 23rd June some members of Gifted and Talented went to the Royal Academy of Arts to see the summer exhibition. We got into groups, which consisted of one Year 10 student and two Year 7s and set off by tube. When we got to the Royal Academy we assembled outside and got our programs. We were met by a large metal structure that was called Art! It wasn’t popular among the group. When we went to the first gallery Mr Clarke set us a task to find a painting that we would buy if we had the money; and later discuss our reasons for doing so.

As we entered the first gallery there was an array of different paintings and sculptures. We went searching for our favourite piece of art. Some galleries had different art work than others and some art was better than others! We eventually narrowed it down to our top three favourite artwork pieces. As it neared lunchtime we chose our art pieces and explained why we chose them over others.

For lunch we went to a delightful little sandwich bar café and had - sandwiches. Some were cold, some were hot, some were vegetarian and some were not! After our delicious lunch we went to sit at a fountain in Trafalgar Square and settled to do some quiet, peaceful sketching.
