Vintage year for JLS athletes

A record total of four boys from The John Lyon School have qualified to represent Middlesex schools at the national athletics finals.

The selection of 14-year-olds Anthony Jeffrey, Babatundae Adelekan, Luke Roach-Christie, and of 18-year-old Sonny Flynn means the independent school in Harrow has more athletes at the English Schools Championship than any other school in the county.

The John Lyon School (JLS) Headmaster Kevin Riley said: “This is proving to be a vintage year for athletics at JLS! We have invested heavily in Sport over the past five years and we’re really seeing the results of that now. It's only the second time that the School has ever had a boy selected, so to have four qualify in one year is a fine achievement, both for the boys themselves and for our Sports staff.”

Anthony Jeffrey has been selected in the Junior Boys 100m; Babatundae Adelekan in the Junior Boys 200m; Sonny Flynn in the Senior Boys 400m and Luke Roach-Christie in the Junior Boys Shot Putt.

In winning the Middlesex Schools Championship, Luke threw over 14 metres more than four times – the only boy in his age group in the country to exceed the 14 metre mark this year.
