Perfect Scores!
Five boys at The John Lyon School have achieved perfect marks across four different GCSE subjects. The five from the independent school in Harrow are among just a handful of students nationwide to gain the best possible score from examination board Edexcel.

Remarkably, Shabbir Merali achieved a perfect score in two subjects, Spanish and IGCSE Maths, while Karan Kapoor and Hannes Pardo also both scored top marks in Spanish. Freddie Herman achieved a perfect score in Drama, one of only a handful of the 60,878 students who took this GCSE this year to achieve this. Over 94,000 students sat RS (Religious Studies) and JLS pupil, Farhan Zubair, was one of the elite who achieved a perfect mark.

Headmaster Kevin Riley said: "These are outstanding achievements – there are many thousands of entries in each of these subjects at GCSE. Obviously we are delighted for the individual students; we are particularly pleased that the results are spread across four subjects, which reflects the very high standards of teaching across the board at the School. It is also remarkable to have three boys in one school achieving the best possible mark for one subject – Spanish. IGCSE Mathematics is acknowledged as an examination taken by particularly able students, so for Shabbir Merali to achieve a perfect mark in that is excellent."

The John Lyon School prides itself on turning out rounded individuals. Freddie Harman achieved his perfect score in Drama whilst finding time to appear in all the School's theatre productions as well as being a Music Scholar, Mr Riley pointed out.

The Managing Director of Edexcel, Jerry Jarvis, said "This is a tremendous achievement and testament to the hard work students put into preparing for their exams. We send our congratulations to Shabbir, Karan, Hannes, Freddie and Farhan."
