Excellent A Level results at JLS PDF Print E-mail

A third of A level candidates at The John Lyon School achieved straight A grades this year, as the Harrow independent school celebrated another very positive year.

84% of grades at JLS were As or Bs – a performance exceeded only in the School’s best-ever set of results in 2006. This year’s results mean the average total of A and B grades over the last three years stands at more than 85%, further cementing the School’s reputation as one of the country’s top independent boys’ schools.

Individual academic successes at the School include many pupils who also find time to take part in music or drama productions or excel in sports.

Headmaster Kevin Riley said: “Firstly, I must congratulate our boys and their teachers on a truly excellent set of results – the second-best in the School’s 132-year history. I am particularly proud of the calibre of students at The John Lyon School: many combine tremendous focus and ability in the classroom with a dedication to playing a full part in other aspects of School life, including sport and the arts. Passing examinations is, of course, important, and we are happy to be known as an academic school, but I believe – in common with many top employers – that the very best candidates can demonstrate good A level grades and evidence of achievement in other spheres.”

Examination result highlights at the 600-pupil School include:
• 20 boys out of 60 in Year 13 achieving straight As
• Five A grades for Faisal Islam, who also achieved a distinction in his Advanced Extension Award (AEA) paper in History and merit in his Economics AEA
• Four As for Max Hird, 18, of North Harrow, who gained a distinction in AEA Economics
• Three As for Imran Keshani and a merit in AEA English, who secured a place at Cambridge University
• A 100% pass rate – all examinations taken were passed at grades A-E

The John Lyon School is an 11-18 day school with a maximum roll limited to 600 pupils. It was founded in the 19th century by Harrow School to provide an education for local boys and still retains close links with the famous boarding school.
