Music, Drama and Art & Design not only form an important part of the curriculum at The John Lyon School, but are also enjoyed by many boys as extra-curricular activities.
We are proud of the high standards the School has attained in recent years in events such as our Easter drama production held in Harrow School’s superbly equipped Ryan Theatre. Many of our pupils have also achieved tremendous individual success while at the School, winning places in the National Youth Choir and Orchestra, for example. Our most talented boys often go on to great success after leaving JLS, too: we have a good record of securing choral or organ scholarships at Oxford or Cambridge and in winning places at Central St Martin’s College of Art & Design.

Regular arts events during the year include:
  • The Commemoration Concert, with combined ensembles from JLS and Harrow School
  • Annual Art Show displaying the work of GCSE and A Level students
  • Our major Autumn and Spring Term drama productions
  • Our house drama and music Competitions
  • A range of music concerts and an annual Carol Concert
The School offers competitive entrance scholarships in Art & Design, in Music and in Drama at 11, 13 and 16.
