Activities - Beyond the Classroom PDF Print E-mail
Beyond the ClassroomAt JLS, we are proud of our extensive range of activities. These make full use of the talents and personal skills of our staff, most of whom are high-achievers in their own right.

In the first three years, a varied activities programme is provided for all boys as part of their Friday afternoon timetable, structured around three areas: creativity, action and service. Boys are put into special groups of about 12, giving them the chance to make new friends. Many of these activities are designed to complement what boys learn during the rest of the week. For example, while football (soccer) is traditionally the main winter sport at JLS, during Friday afternoon activities, boys can try their hand at rugby under the expert eye of a Middlesex county coach. Water polo is a highlight for many boys, while pupils also enjoy archery, an historically important sport at JLS, which is learned in the Bowmen of Harrow’s range at our Sudbury Hill playing fields. Examples of other activities include: group art, food (preparation and cookery) and the Living Safely course (incorporating elements of Personal, Health and Social Education).

As well as the timetabled Friday afternoon activities, almost 100 clubs, societies and activities are available each term before and after school, as well as at lunchtimes. Here are just a few examples:
