About JLS - Development PDF Print E-mail
The John Lyon School’s ten-year development plan, or ‘estates strategy’, will give JLS the best possible facilities to provide a modern education and to achieve excellence in music, art, the performing arts and sport.

In 2007, the estates strategy secured £4.4m of financial support from the Governors, enabling work to begin.

Specific priorities of the estates strategy are:
  • Improving the drama facilities
  • Making better use of the Old Building
  • Significantly enhancing the music facilities
  • Providing better facilities for catering and dining
  • Creating more flexible teaching space
Further aims include: upgrading play and social areas; an end to parking on both the playground and Middle Road; upgrading the Boyd Campbell Hall and making improvements to Sudbury Hill playing fields.

The first major project has been the construction of a three-storey rear extension to the existing science block, including a lift. This has enabled the creation of a bank of generic classrooms in the centre of the School for use by any department. This new building was open for the start of the Autumn Term 2008.
