The JLS jazz concert was the culmination of a whole day of jazz workshops – introducing jazz music and improvisation skills to several groups made up of boys in Years 7 – 10. The workshops were put together by Chris Grey, the School’s Musician-in-Residence, with the help of his own quartet of professional jazz musicians (Ian Ellis, Dave Jenkins and Tom Hooper). He says: “The whole day was exhausting but thoroughly enjoyable, and during the evening concert, all the groups performed – a real achievement, as all the music was new to the boys that day. The evening finished with a performance by my quartet. We are hoping that this will become an annual event.”
