National essay competition success

Faisal Islam, a Sixth-Former at The John Lyon School, Harrow, took second place in a prestigious history essay competition run by Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, while his classmate, Andrew Watters, was ‘commended’ in the same competition.
Faisal earned the £500 prize with an essay on ‘Whether wars make states or states make wars’ using research from historical sources dating back to Plato. Both boys’ success have been posted on Corpus Christi’s website.

 

 

Triple biology honour

Three Year 13 boys at The John Lyon School, Harrow, are celebrating after successes in the national Biology Olympiad competition, run by the Institute of Biology in London. Juzer Karimjee took a silver medal, while Narbeh Kraskian was ‘highly commended’ and Rishi Sethi ‘commended’. Schools from all over the country take part and there are usually more than 1,500 entrants. Juzer Karimjee was presented with his silver medal at a ceremony at Imperial College, London.

 

 

 

Capping a superb season

Former FIFA and Premier League referee David Elleray presented Theo Ohene, of Harrow, with his cap following a season of success with the Independent Schools Football Association national squad. Theo, a Year 13 pupil at The John Lyon School, scored a hat trick in one game and took part in the ISFA’s tour of Poland. His classmate, Shane O’Neill, also played in the squad – the first boys from the School to do so for some years.
