The John Lyon School has come up with an innovative building scheme that will not only provide new sports facilities for its pupils but also reduce traffic congestion in Harrow on the Hill. The independent school is applying for planning permission to replace an existing hard sports pitch with a multi-use games area – and build a 47-space School car park underneath. If planners approve the project, the car park will be accessed via a new layby off Lower Road. Currently, staff and visitors must drive on to the Hill and either park in the playground or along Middle Road. The School Bursar, Nicholas Marten, said: “We are very pleased to be able to improve our sporting facilities with this multi-use games area, which will feature an advanced, all-weather surface. “The project will also help ease traffic congestion around the School and on the Hill, as well as providing much-needed, off-road parking on the School site. In addition, the new underground car park will help us keep clear the playground, which is currently also used as a car park.” Mr Marten said it was hoped the project would be carried out within the next two years. Headmaster Kevin Riley added: “The John Lyon School is entering an exciting period of development, strongly supported by the Harrow School Foundation. We are striving to be a good neighbour and we hope that this project combines improving our own facilities with effective measures to reduce congestion for our neighbours at key moments of the School day.” Issued on behalf of The John Lyon School MEDIA CONTACTS: Mr Kevin Riley at The John Lyon School on 020 8872 8434 or Paul Herbert at Edge Media on 01453 842020 |
