The Careers Department at the School offers support and guidance for boys seeking to make choices about future career options. There is a dedicated careers office and library located just off the main library. The careers resources can be accessed by asking at the main library desk. Boys are also welcome to discuss career options with Dr Clews, the Head of Careers, either by approaching him informally or making an appointment. The Careers Department offers Morrisby Testing and follow-up interviews for students in Year 10. The test is useful in helping boys understand where their particular skills and aptitudes lie. The Careers Department also runs Careers Evenings where a number of Old Lyonians kindly share their expertise of working in various careers, including ICT, Law and Medicine. Careers events have also been arranged that have involved all students in Years 9 and 10. The Careers Department also seeks to offer a work shadowing or placement scheme for boys in Year 12. Again this is arranged through the generosity of Old Lyonians who may permit boys to spend a day or longer with them learning about what it is like to work in that career.
