This national day of fun and celebration, which highlights the importance of reading for pleasure and sharing of stories, began with special presentations at assembly and the distribution of free books and WBD vouchers to boys in Years 7 and 8.

The day continued with the decoration of the New Memorial Hall and a specially adapted book-themed Lunch Menu. Book recommendations were placed around the tables and a lunchtime celebration took place in the Library, where very excited pupils gathered to take part in our Literature Quizzes and ‘Design a National Book Token’ Competition, bolstered by the party atmosphere and a selection of cakes, biscuits and fruit on offer. We wish to congratulate our prize-winners, Varun Valentine, Ethan Beardwell, Odin Verden and Ken Houghton and runners-up, Andrew MacKenzie, Vinay Kapoor, Roman Filippov and Adnan Kachwala for their splendid work.

The entries for the Book Token competition will be sent off to be judged in the national competition, where one lucky winner’s design will be used for an official National Book Token, which will be distributed to bookshops nationwide in time for Christmas.
